RECTOR SPEAKS ON; RE-ENACTMENT OF THE FEDCODTTEN
ESTABLISHMENT ACT BY THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY;
On assumption as the Rector of the College in November, 2016, the burden to transform the institution was paramount considering the College which was first established by the Queen’s Ordinance No. 16 in 1952. (MEDICAL AUXILLARIES AND FOR CONTROL, REGULATION AND TRAINING”; SUB-UNIT iii and iv) as Federal School of Dental Technology and Federal School of Dental Hygiene.
This necessitated the prompt action to present her case before the 8thNational Assembly for re-enactment of the Bill to re-establish the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Enugu as a Degree awarding Institution, to enable the College function properly under law and draw relevant benefits available for similar institutions in Nigeria.
With perseverance from the college management staff and a detailed development plan set in motion, this enabled the push for passage of the Bill through the Federal House of Representatives and concurrence by the Senate before transmission to the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Gen. Mohammed Buhari (Rtd.), which received assent and signed into law on 5 December, 2017 thereby establishing an enabling law (Act No. 8 of 2017) granting the College powers to award degrees in her mandate areas. Now the Institution has taken her rightful status amongst institution of higher learning in Nigeria.
Today, this singular action sees the College operating from a Monotechnic status to a degree awarding status after 62 years of her existence and from a two department College to seven departments and three faculties in the space of three years.
